We’re halfway through September, and nearly 7 months since I left New Zealand back in February.
A lot has happened since then, adventures in Turkey, Dog care in Bulgaria, teaching in Romania; and that’s barely the tip of the Iceberg. (Hopefully I’ll find time to share more stories and pictures soon)
Romania was a journey I didn’t expect when I decided to come here back in June.
An English summer camp for Romania school children, sounds fun; trips to cities and museums on the days off while I’m there, even better. I wrapped my time up in Bulgaria, boarded a bus that was more chaotic than planned and eventually arrived in the mountains of Romania.
One month, 5 camps, a whole lot of kids and It seemed like I was done and off to the next country. Turns out I was eager for more and the opportunities were there. A well needed break in Bucharest, and off to another city for 5 more camps.
Then its at an end. Goodbyes began to be said and we all slowly went separate ways. My time in Romania wasn’t at its end just yet though. A few more stops were needed, to explore some other cities that were recommended. Bacau, Cluj-Napoca, Oradea, and Drobeta-Turnu Severin awaited me before I left. All of these cities plus the few others I had already visited have continued to show the amazing beauty of Romania.
I’ve taken so many photos of stunning architecture, unexpected parts of nature (Salt mines are crazy!) and gorgeous views.
I prepare to leave knowing that there are still quite a few places in Romania that I’d like to visit but I also know that this has been one hell of an experience.
Working with the kids at the camp was an absolute blast even when it was challenging. It also gave me the opportunity to try out what it might be like to teach and work with kids in such an environment, of course its not the same as a classroom but it has similarities. I enjoyed it a lot and am sure that someday I’ll find more ways and reason to teach or support kids, like many things I enjoy doing it’s all for helping others to be better or be able to do better.
There’s probably a whole lot more I could say about these past couple months and I think I might come back to reflect later. Right now though I’m still getting into the swing of this whole blog, reflecting, story telling thing so I think I still need to settle into my voice as some might say.
In any case Romania has been wonderful, its been kind, and above all it’s been welcoming; I cross my fingers that the winds will blow in the right direction and I’ll be back here again next year to see some more of it.
